Children's participation, childhood publics and social change: a review

This article reviews the progress of children’s participation rights in England within a broader agenda of social change. It suggests that while significant strides have been made through institutional changes in policy and practice, a complementary understanding can be found by connecting children’s rights debates to social movements and the concept of "childhood publics." The piece concludes that a nuanced understanding of change for children requires a cross-national, longitudinal perspective grounded in everyday life, moving beyond solely institutional approaches.
